Position purpose
To carry out coal, Biomass & ash sample preparation and testing, generate accurate test reports, and make sure fuel quality through systematic evaluation and shift wise reporting, thereby assisting equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and uninterrupted power plant operations. Also to monitor and review the overall quality of water and steam feed to Boilers, STG, and other equipment
Position context:
Utkal Alumina is a green field integrated project of HINDALCO Industries Ltd, with Alumina refinery, CGPP & Mines. The Project comprises of 2.0 MTPA Alumina refinery & 90 MW (3x30 MW) Power Plant with PF boilers 3x300 TPH steaming capacity, linkage Coal supply, Transportation of Coal, Railway siding and Water drawl system which includes Intake well and Pipeline of 20KM.
With the increased capacity of Alumina Refinery, the coal consumption, DM water generation, chemical consumption has increased significantly. Every month 23 coal rakes samples & truck coal sample collection & biomass sample collection, all three boilers feed coal sample and its preparation & evaluation, Also Daily approx. 4000 M3 DM water production and all steam and water quality testing and treatment (Process & product) for impurities as well as ash quality testing, mill fineness testing, chemical inventory control and to make sure its availability is a great challenge.

Assisting Actions
Water and Steam Quality (SWAS) Evaluation:
Make sure availability of resources for carrying out such evaluation.
Standardize its procedures for evaluation and communication channels.
Coal, Biomass & Fuel Quality Management
Make sure effective evaluation of coal, biomass & Ash samples & water & oil samples.
Collaborating with Head Technical Services and operation department for necessary back up.
Making sure Compliance to Management.
To undergo the internal & external audits as & when required. To make sure all SOP, SWI,
HIRA and SMP are in place and reviewed from time to time. Taking care of documents of the entire LAB.
To make sure smooth operation of all LAB equipment. & DM plant equipment
To check the functionality of the lab equipment.
To take care of the calibration of the equipment on or before due date.
Troubleshooting and AMC vendor calling with coordination to C &I as and when required.
Regular monitoring of DM plant equipment performance & made daily generation reports.
To plan for Chemical Procurement and its safe storage
To prepare list of required chemicals for a calendar year and initiate procurement action for the To make sure quality of chemical is up to the mark. To make sure the safe storage of chemicals `displaying MSDS.
Training and people development.
To make sure relevant training to subordinates as per skill matrix.
