Job Overview

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) – Product Owner / Business Data Analyst bridges business strategy and technical execution across Citi's data and analytics ecosystem. This role drives the product delivery lifecycle for data platforms, reporting solutions, and analytical tools while executing hands-on data modeling, SQL querying, and visual analytics in Tableau. The role requires strong agile ownership, data governance discipline, and adherence to Citi's risk and control standards.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Product Ownership & Agile Delivery


  • Backlog & Sprint Execution: Own, prioritize, and manage the Jira product backlog; align sprint deliverables with product roadmaps, business priorities, and stakeholder commitments.
  • User Stories & Requirements: Author detailed user stories with clear acceptance criteria (BDD/Gherkin format) and functional specifications for engineering teams.
  • Agile Ceremonies: Participate in and facilitate sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, and sprint retrospectives with Scrum Masters and developers.
  • UAT & Release Validation: Define UAT test scenarios, coordinate business testing cycles, and support production release readiness.

2. Business & Data Analysis, Modeling & Visualization


  • Data Modeling (Tableau & SQL): Build and maintain data models, semantic layers, and relationships (joins, blending, LOD calculations) to support multi-dimensional reporting.
  • SQL Data Analysis: Write complex SQL queries (joins, CTEs, subqueries, analytical/window functions) across relational and enterprise data warehouses to extract, validate, and analyze datasets.
  • Dashboarding & Report Visualization: Design, build, and optimize interactive, production-ready dashboards in Tableau (or PowerBI) to visualize financial, operational, performance, and risk metrics.
  • Business Process Analysis: Translate business workflows, transaction flows, and financial reporting requirements (e.g., P&L, balance sheet trends) into clear data and functional specifications.

3. Data Governance, Risk & Controls

  • Governance Standards: Apply Citi's Data Management Standard,  define Critical Data Elements (CDEs), and establish data quality validation rules.
  • Lineage & Traceability: Maintain data lineage, metadata definitions, and data dictionaries to ensure transparency.
  • Risk & Audit Readiness: Ensure all project documentation, change controls, and SDLC artifacts comply with Citi’s internal risk and audit standards.

4. Stakeholder Collaboration & Adoption

  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with business partners, finance leaders, and risk teams to gather requirements, communicate sprint progress, and manage feedback.
  • User Enablement & Training: Prepare user guides, conduct demo sessions, and support change management to drive adoption of analytics solutions.

Qualifications & Competencies


Education & Experience


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • Experience:7+ years in agile product ownership, business analysis, or data analytics within financial services.

Technical & Analytical Skills


  • Tableau: Strong hands-on proficiency in Tableau Desktop and Server (data modeling, LOD calculations, dashboard creation, performance optimization).
  • SQL & Databases: Strong SQL skills with experience querying relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) or cloud/enterprise data platforms.
  • Data Visualization & Modeling: Demonstrated ability to build intuitive reports and robust data models from disparate data sources.
  • Agile & Tools: Proficiency with Jira and Confluence for user story mapping, backlog management, and documentation.
  • Data Governance: Working knowledge of data governance principles, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality controls.
