Job Description

An early?career hydrodynamic study and CFD expert in the marine propeller development domain is expected to possess strong foundational skills in computational fluid dynamics, with practical exposure to industry?standard simulation toolssuch as ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS CFX. These platforms are widely used for steady and transient hydrodynamic analyses, rotating machinery simulations, cavitation prediction, and performance evaluation of marine propellers.Candidates should be comfortable setting up and post?processing simulations involving turbulence modelling, moving reference frames, and transient rotor–stator interactions. Comfortable knowledge of multiphase flow simulations for cavitation is a core requirement. Understanding and modelling air–water interaction and free?surface is highly valued for resistance studies. Exposure to multi?domain or multi-physics simulationssuch as coupling fluid flow with structural response (FSI), or thermal effects is a strong advantage.Design of marine propellers follow the same principles as design of aeroplane wings. Candidates should understand the advanced fluid dynamics theory supporting them, such as the Circulation theory and its application levels such as lifting line theory. Marine propeller design is aided with propeller?specific design and analysis software, such as PROPCAD, enables faster preliminary design iterations and performance assessments. Apart from them, there are open-source tools like OPENPROPand in-house codesfor design and analyses of propellers. Knowledge of such tools or codification of the physics is a core requirement. An awareness of naval architecture principles, including resistance, propulsion, and ship–propeller interaction, will further strengthen the candidate’s ability to contribute effectively to propeller design and development projects. Candidate should have the motive and enthusiasm to research on this area to better understand propellers, propeller theory, and product realisation involved in the project.Additional beneficial skills include meshing tools (ANSYS Meshing, Fluent Meshing), CAD platforms for geometry handling, and basic scripting or automation using Python or similar languages.
